What is a hernia?

Hernia  occurs where part of internal body contents pushes through weakness with in the abdominal wall. An organ such as intestine can protrudes through weakness and forms a balloon like sac. This bulge can be more prominent when patient is standing up or straining.

What causes a hernia?

A hernia can be present at birth, or it may develop later in life. Most hernias develop later in life.
