In the summer of 2013 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The doctor worked hard to get the medication right and by the end of the year things were looking better. I had lost about 2 stone, was eating more healthily but I still couldn’t do much exercise because of my weight.
The turn of 2014 into 2015 was a difficult time for me. Five years previous to this, I had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes which had been largely controlled by diet, exercise and medication. However, the disease had suddenly and dramatically started progressing and I was becoming increasingly worried as various health issues began to escalate. My doctor told me the numbness in my leg was sciatica but all I could think about was that diabetes had resulted in my grandfather’s legs being amputated. Serious, effective action was needed and fast.
I first met Mr Irukulla at BMI the Runnymede Hospital, Chertsey in October of 2015 following a referral from my longstanding GP. I am a 56 year old male that weighed 136 kg, obviously with the completely wrong diet I.e. Types of food, time of eating, and excess alcohol all combined with total lack of any form of exercise.
After suffering for many months last year with swallowing food, vomiting and acid reflux, together with substantial weight loss (4 stones in total) I had numerous tests and procedures resulting in a diagnosis of Achalasia.
Following a consultation with my surgeon Mr Shashidhar Irukulla it was clear that majority surgery was the only sure way of resolving the problem for my future years.
